Drivers, attention! New rules have come into effect.

According to the new regulation issued by the Ministry of Interior, it has become mandatory for drivers of bicycles, electric bicycles, motorized bicycles, motorcycles, and T3 category tractors produced after 2001 to wear protective helmets and goggles. Additionally, passengers sitting at the back of motorcycles will also be required to wear goggles and gloves.

The Ministry of Interior has implemented changes in the Highway Traffic Regulation that closely concern drivers.

The Ministry of Interior has made comprehensive changes to the Highway Traffic Regulation. With the regulation published in the Official Gazette and coming into effect, innovations have been introduced in the processes related to the maintenance of driver and vehicle records. Accordingly, the technical data and legal regulations required by the General Directorate of Security (EGM) can now be obtained electronically not only from public institutions but also from professional organizations with the status of public institutions and private legal entities.

The data that will form the basis for driver’s license and vehicle registration processes can be obtained electronically by EGM through relevant institutions or shared in a limited manner, provided that the exceptions in the laws are preserved.

HELMET AND GOGGLES MANDATORY FOR MOTORCYCLE RIDERS

According to the new regulation, the use of protective helmets and goggles has become mandatory for drivers of bicycles, electric bicycles, motorcycles, and tractors in the T3 category produced after 2001 (excluding three-wheeled cargo motorcycles and models protected by a body).

Additionally, it has also become mandatory for motorcycle riders and passengers, except for three-wheeled cargo motorcycles and vehicles with closed bodies, to wear protective gloves. The requirement for passengers to wear helmets continues as before.

993 LIRA FINE FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE RULE

Drivers who do not use these mandatory protective equipment for safety will be subject to an administrative fine of 993 lira.
