The new judicial package expected to come to the Parliament includes prison sentences for traffic offenses. Accordingly, those who cause accidents and flee the scene, those who drive without a license, and those who obstruct the movement of vehicles will face increased penalties, and in some cases, they may even receive prison sentences.
With the new judicial regulation, it is planned to increase penalties for traffic offenses, implement prison sentences, and expand the scope of license confiscation.
According to a report by Türkiye newspaper; the details of the legal changes to be made within the framework of the Judicial Reform Strategy Document, which emerged from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statements, have started to become clearer. The first goal mentioned in this document will be the steps to be taken to eliminate the perception of impunity. According to the information obtained, penalties for certain traffic offenses will be increased, and new regulations will be introduced to enhance deterrence.
PENALTIES FOR HIT-AND-RUN DRIVERS WILL BE INCREASED
In particular, penalties for hit-and-run drivers, those driving without a license, and those obstructing the movement of vehicles will be further aggravated. Currently, drivers who flee the scene of an accident face a fine of 2,170 lira and 20 penalty points. However, even if these individuals come forward after the accident and confess their crimes, they do not receive a deterrent penalty due to the inability to determine whether they were under the influence of alcohol because of the time that has passed. Considering this situation, it is planned to revoke the licenses of hit-and-run drivers for an extended period, increase fines, and in some cases, impose prison sentences if they are identified.
