Drone attack on the oil refinery in Erbil.

A fire broke out at the Lanaz Oil Refinery located in Erbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (IKBY), as a result of a drone attack.

Tensions continue to rise in Iraq due to the US-Israel attacks on Iran and the retaliations from the Tehran administration.

DRONE ATTACK ON OIL REFINERY

A drone attack was carried out on the Lanaz Oil Refinery located west of Erbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (IKBY). A fire broke out in a section of the industrial facility due to the attack.

While firefighting teams dispatched to the scene attempted to control the fire, it was reported that material damage occurred at the facility. No statement has yet been made regarding any casualties or injuries from the attack.

WORK COMPLETELY HALTED

It was noted that following the attack, the refinery management decided to completely halt operations in order to assess security risks and conduct damage assessment. Local sources indicated that it is still unclear when the facility will resume operations.

INVESTIGATION INITIATED

Security sources announced that a comprehensive investigation has been initiated to identify those responsible for the drone attack. This development occurred at a time when similar attacks were carried out against the US Embassy in Baghdad and the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Erbil.
