THAI ARMY LAUNCHED AIR STRIKES ON CAMBODIA

According to a report by the Cambodia-based Khmer Times, the Cambodian Ministry of Defense stated that the Thai army has launched airstrikes with F-16s. Socheata alleged that after a while, the Thai side continued its attacks using tanks and chemical gases in some areas, stating that they are closely monitoring the situation at the border. Socheata accused the Thai side of spreading "false information" about Cambodia, stating that many civilians were injured in the attacks and that efforts have begun to evacuate local residents. MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER: WE ARE DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE CONFLICTS

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed "deep concern" about the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia in a statement made on the social media platform of the US-based X company. Anwar extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, highlighting that the renewed clashes pose a risk of undermining efforts to reduce tensions.

Anwar emphasized that Thailand and Cambodia are important members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and called on both sides to "exercise extreme caution and keep communication channels open." He stated that Malaysia is ready to provide support to restore calm and prevent future incidents, noting that it is unacceptable for ongoing disputes in the region to enter a cycle of conflict. Anwar stated, "The urgent priority is to stop the conflict, protect civilians, and return to the diplomatic path supported by international law and the spirit of neighborhood that ASEAN is committed to."

BORDER TENSIONS BETWEEN THAILAND AND CAMBODIA

Thailand and Cambodia, separated by 817 kilometers of border fences in Southeast Asia, have been experiencing territorial disputes for a long time. Following the violation of the border agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, a brief conflict occurred in the region on May 28, and the armies of both countries had agreed to resolve the issue peacefully.

About 2 months later, in clashes that broke out on July 24 along the border, 32 people from both countries were killed. Thailand and Cambodia signed a "peace agreement" during a ceremony attended by US President Donald Trump on October 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of the 47th ASEAN Summit, aimed at resolving the border clashes that erupted in July.

Following the border clashes, Cambodia announced that it had begun to mutually withdraw heavy weapons from the border areas with Thailand, with which it signed a peace agreement.
