Elif Çakır: I turned back from the university gate because of the headscarf issue.

27.11.2024 09:10

The author Elif Çakır, who was a guest on Haberler.com, made sincere confessions about her own life. Çakır stated that she won a university scholarship during the period when the headscarf issue was prevalent and that she took a photo wearing a wig for her registration. She said, "When I saw those who came out crying from inside, I didn't register. I turned back at the door."

Author Elif Çakır was a guest of Gökay Kalaycıoğlu, the host of the "Haber Bahane" program published on Haberler.com. Çakır made sincere confessions about her private life.

"I DECIDED TO LIVE WITHOUT A HEADSCARF"

Çakır stated that she intentionally did not remove her headscarf photos from her social media accounts, saying, "They are my past. I was covered yesterday; I chose such a life. I love that state of mine and I respect it. Later, I decided to live without a headscarf. This is also my choice. If we create a Turkey where people are not discussed based on their clothing, that day Turkey will normalize for me." she said.

"MAYBE IT WAS NOT QUESTIONED BECAUSE 'ELIF' WAS IN THE FOREFRONT"

Çakır, who stated that she covered herself at a young age but later chose to do so herself, said, "I may have complied with this decision due to family circumstances at a young age, but when I reached the age to question it, I was not disturbed by it. I loved myself very much when I looked in the mirror. Later, I wanted to continue my life without a headscarf. Both are mine. I love both very much. In fact, it was not questioned much. Maybe it was because 'Elif' was more prominent."

"I TOOK A PHOTO WITH A WIG BUT TURNED BACK FROM THE UNIVERSITY DOOR"

Çakır, who said she was accepted into the Journalism department at Istanbul University but did not enroll due to her headscarf, spoke as follows:

"At that time, the headscarf issue had started to manifest itself more harshly. During that period, some photographers had signs in their windows saying 'photos can be taken with a wig, we have suitable wigs.' I went into the Simge Photographer in Fatih to register for the university. I got a wig with bangs because it needed to cover the headscarf. Later, when I saw those who came out crying from inside, I turned back from the university door. I did not enroll."
