American billionaire businessman Elon Musk announced that he has stepped down from his advisory role with President Trump. Musk stated, "I thank Trump for the opportunity to reduce waste as my planned term as a special government official comes to an end." Musk's departure came after disagreements over a law signed by Trump that anticipated significant increases in spending.
American billionaire businessman Elon Musk commented on the Government Efficiency Department (DOGE) he led during his tenure, stating, "The DOGE mission will become stronger over time and will turn into a way of life across the government."
WHITE HOUSE CONFIRMED
A White House official also confirmed to Anadolu Agency that Musk has left his position. Musk's departure came after a disagreement over a budget and tax cut law that carries President Trump's signature and anticipates significant spending increases.
DID NOT MEET WITH TRUMP
According to American media, Musk did not have an official meeting with Trump before leaving his position. Musk began his role in the Trump administration as a Special Government Employee. American law limits the tenure of officials in this category to 130 days per year. Musk's term, which began after Trump's inauguration, was set to expire tomorrow.
"SEEING THE HUGE SPENDING BILL DISAPPOINTED ME"
In an interview with CBS, Musk stated regarding the issue, "To be frank, seeing this huge spending bill that increases the budget deficit instead of reducing it disappointed me. This law undermines the work done by the DOGE team."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Musk was appointed to head DOGE, which was established to eliminate waste, on the first day of Trump's presidency. Since taking office, thousands of people have been laid off in the federal government as part of the cost-saving measures prepared by Musk and his team, while aid provided by institutions such as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has also been significantly reduced.
On the other hand, Tesla, owned by Musk, who played an active role in the Trump administration and became the focus of criticism due to his political actions, has faced protests and boycotts. Tesla's net profit also recorded a 71% decrease in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
