An emergency water action plan has been implemented following a drop in the water level to 8% at the Gökçe Dam, which supplies drinking water needs in Yalova. As part of the plan, water cuts will occur in neighborhoods from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM starting November 26.
An emergency water action plan has been initiated as the water level at Gökçe Dam in Yalova has dropped to 8%. Water cuts will be implemented on a neighborhood basis starting from November 26.
YALOVA HAS 15 DAYS OF WATER LEFT Gökçe Dam, built in the Termal district of Yalova between 1980-1989, meets the drinking water needs of Yalova residents with a capacity of 36 million cubic meters. The dam supplies the city, which consumes an average of 40 thousand cubic meters of water daily. Due to insufficient rainfall, the water level of the dam was measured at 8% as of November, and it is estimated that the city has 15 days of water left.
EMERGENCY WATER ACTION PLAN IS BEING IMPLEMENTED Decisions regarding the Emergency Water Action Plan were made during a coordination meeting chaired by Yalova Governor Hülya Kaya. As part of the plan, agricultural water allocations have been halted in the first phase, and municipalities are prohibited from using network water for park-garden irrigation and road washing. The use of water in ornamental and swimming pools fed by the network has also been completely stopped.
PLANNED WATER CUTS WILL OCCUR EVERY DAY Planned water cuts will be implemented starting from November 26. All municipalities will carry out water cuts between 20:00 and 05:00 on a neighborhood basis. The water supplied to industrial facilities will first be reduced by 50%, and if the reserve falls below 10 days' level, it will be completely cut off. Due to the drop in the dam, it has been decided that Ortaburun Pond will supply water to the Çınarcık line, all DSİ wells in the region will be activated, and floating pumps will be prepared. Additionally, it has been announced that technical preparations for reverse feeding from Kocaeli Yuvacık Dam will be completed.
In the medium term, it is planned to reduce network losses, completely ban the use of network water in agriculture, expand smart meter and SCADA systems, and complete the connection of İhsaniye Dam. The Health Directorate will increase water quality controls, and additional measures will be taken for water safety in critical facilities (hospitals, nursing homes, dialysis centers). Special support will be provided for elderly and disabled citizens to access water.
