In the famous carpet maker murder case, where the victim was dismembered with an axe and dissolved in acid, the defendants spoke for the first time. Most of the defendants confessed to the murder, pointing to the victim's childhood friend, Işık E., while the main defendant, Işık E., denied all accusations. Relatives of the famous carpet maker Nurhan Ör, who had not heard from him since November 7, 2023, reported the situation to the police. As a result of the investigations conducted by the police teams, Nurhan Ör's car was found abandoned in Gebze. The Kocaeli Provincial Police Department's Homicide Bureau teams clarified the case by examining a thousand hours of camera footage. It was determined that Nurhan Ör was beaten and knocked unconscious at a car gallery in Sultanbeyli, Istanbul, and then wrapped in a carpet and placed in the trunk of his car, which was taken to a farm in Kartepe district. It was found that Ör's body was dismembered and dissolved in acid. The police arrested Işık E. (56), Ahmet T. (57), Bahadır T. (30), Ceyhun A. (57), Emrah D. (34), and Ferdi G. (37), who were sent to prison. It was learned that suspects Işık E., Ahmet T., and Ceyhun A. had been friends with Nurhan Ör since high school. "WE SHARED THE SAME TABLE WITH NURHAN"The trial related to the incident began at the Kocaeli 4th High Criminal Court. The trial was attended by the detained defendants, the victim's family, and the lawyers of both parties. The trial lasted for 9 hours. Ceyhun A., who said he was a school friend of Ahmet, Nurhan, and Işık, stated, "I am very sorry, I apologize to Nurhan's family. I did not know that the person we dissolved in acid was Nurhan. I had not seen Nurhan for 35 years, but he was my friend from high school. Ahmet, Nurhan, and Işık were very close friends, but Nurhan and I had a separate friendship. During that time, we shared the same table with Nurhan. We had a good friendship. It was a time when I needed money. I also owed Işık money. Işık told me that there was a debt issue with someone else, 'Tension may rise, let’s not disturb anyone with loud noises, let’s use your farm. In return, I will give you money.' I accepted this," he said. "I BOUGHT THE ELECTRIC SAW TO CUT WOOD A DAY BEFORE THE INCIDENT"Ceyhun A. stated that Ahmet and Ferdi brought acid to the farm, saying, "There were a lot of bugs in the manure pile, Işık and Ahmet said, 'Acid will get rid of them,' and I thought that was why they brought it. Since I was sacrificing an animal, there were things like cleavers and knives at the farm. Işık gave me money because I was going to renovate the farm. I bought an axe, cleaver, saw, plastic, and gloves because I needed them for my farm. I bought the electric saw to cut wood a day before the incident. On the day of the incident, Ahmet and Işık came to me, and we had dinner together. I was going to buy clothes for myself. First, we dropped Işık off in Körfez. They took me to Istanbul. Ahmet gave me a cell phone, saying, 'When you call, you will take the car and go to the farm.' It was an old type of phone. They called, but I didn’t hear it. Ahmet came to me and said, 'Hurry, everything is ready, go to the gallery and get the car. We packed it, you won’t have any problems.' When I went to the gallery, Işık was at the door, and Ferdi was outside. They said, 'The car is ready, we have been waiting for you for hours. Ahmet will meet you on the road.' "IŞIK TOLD US TO DISSOLVE THE BODY IN ACID"Ceyhun A. stated that he also picked up the defendant Ferdi on the way, saying, "Ahmet called us and said he would meet us in Izmit. He directed us. We arrived at the farm with Ferdi. Ferdi took the package wrapped in a carpet, which was also taped. Ferdi said, 'This is already dead.' We threw some water on it, and he said, 'It died while we were at the gallery.' I called Işık and told him it was dead, and he said, 'I know, do what is necessary.' When I asked, 'What is necessary?' he told us to throw it in acid. We changed our clothes, and Ferdi brought the wheelbarrow. We took the body wrapped in the carpet from the car and brought it inside. I did not know that the body belonged to Nurhan. We went and changed our clothes. Ferdi brought clothes, and he changed too. He had a ski mask on, and I never took off the mask. The body had fractures on its head, and its back was completely dark. The back of its head was covered in blood. There was cotton in its mouth. I never wondered whose body it was; I only wanted to get rid of it," he stated. "IŞIK GAVE ME 400 DOLLARS IN CASH TO BUY PLASTIC AND GLOVES"Ceyhun A. stated that he learned in the police station that the body belonged to Nurhan, saying, "Ferdi helped to dismember the body and throw it in acid. There were 100 liters of acid. After we destroyed the body, Işık called and said the police had called him. He asked me to destroy the materials. I burned all the items. Later, the police came, and I explained what happened. Işık gave me 400 dollars in cash to buy materials like plastic and gloves. He said I needed to prepare the farm. I don’t know if he gave me the money for that. I did not kill Nurhan; I did not know there was a body in the car; I learned that at the farm. I was blinded by my judgment. Işık had given me 20,000 lira, but that money was for renovations," he said. Ferdi G., whose defense was taken, stated, "Işık told me that he was involved in some events in the 1980s, that he worked for an organization, and that he committed murders. He scared and threatened me. Işık Eren prepared a death list of 100 people. He was going to take revenge. Işık told me they would package Nurhan. A day before the incident, Işık called and said I would go to the farm with Ahmet. I, Ceyhun, and Ahmet bought the materials. Then we took them to the farm. Later, Ceyhun bought a saw and plastic bags. After that, I returned to Istanbul with Ahmet. On the day of the incident, Işık took out his gun and cleaned it, saying he would shoot me if we kidnapped Nurhan," he said. "HE TIED HIS HANDS, FEET, AND MOUTH, AND DRESSED HIM"Ferdi G. stated that Emrah dyed his beard and bought a wig a day or two before the incident, saying, "When Emrah sent me his photo, I sent it to Işık. Işık got angry with me for sending him the WhatsApp photo. On the day of the incident, Emrah went to the trunk of the car to avoid being caught by security cameras at the gallery. To prevent the content from being visible on security cameras, he entered through the trunk of the car. We backed up the car. Then he went upstairs. Emrah put on a ski mask. Emrah had obtained 4 SIM cards and 4 phones; we discussed how we would communicate. Later, Nurhan and Işık came to the gallery. As soon as Nurhan entered, Emrah started spraying gas. He incapacitated Nurhan. He pressed on his chest and neck. He taped his hands, feet, and mouth, and asked me for help. I saw Emrah hit Nurhan with a stick. They were either going to execute him, release him, or make him sign a promissory note. Emrah put the ski mask he was wearing on Nurhan's head. While the victim was unconscious, Emrah took off his pants and shoes and wrapped him in a carpet. He said, "He wore those clothes."
"HE CUT OFF HIS HEAD AND LOWER BODY WITH A SICKLE AND AXE"
Ferdi G., who later said they went to the farm, stated, "We went to the farm; I didn't even think he was dead. Ceyhun brought a wheelbarrow, opened it, slapped him a few times, and said, 'He's dead.' He said, 'I need to inform someone,' and called Işık, saying, 'The lamb is dead.' We put on clothes and spread a tarpaulin on the ground. Ceyhun said, 'If someone asks, you say we were fumigating.' He cut off his head and lower body with a sickle and axe. I tried to cut the place where he hit with the axe with a knife, but then I couldn't do it, so I gave up. We dissolved it by putting it in acid. I left the weapon Işık gave me on the table and left. Işık met with Nurhan several times. He bought carpets, saying, 'I will sell your carpets abroad,' but he never made any payments. Işık prepared fake documents to put the carpets on the market. Emrah signed for 16 carpets. Işık aimed to get rid of the $145,000 carpet debt he owed to Nurhan. Işık told Ceyhun that he would make someone sign a promissory note and that they would kill him. Additionally, the day before the incident, Ceyhun explained that he tested whether the acid worked by dissolving a bone with a small amount of liquid. I started this job with threats, but I decided to speak up now; those responsible should face their punishments," he expressed.
"WHEN I TOOK THE CARPET WITH FERDI, I HEARD A VOICE SAYING 'SLOWLY'"
Emrah D., who said Ferdi asked him for spray, SIM cards, and a phone, stated, "I gave him pepper spray and the SIM cards. While sitting with Ferdi, he asked me, 'What would happen if you dyed your beard?' I dyed my beard the day before the incident. I had already thought about dyeing it. Since I had previously worked in a series and did extra work, I wanted to dye my beard. I got out of the car not from the trunk but from the left rear door. After a while, Ferdi called me to the office; there was a carpet, and he wanted me to take it to the car. When I took the carpet with Ferdi, I heard a voice saying, 'Slowly.' I thought it was a normal carpet. I asked what was going on, and he said, 'There is a person.' I got scared; he pulled out a gun and said, 'Don't tell anyone.' We put the carpet in the trunk. I saw Nurhan's face in the trunk. Since I was under the influence of drugs, I didn't know what to do. I didn't change my pants and shoes. Ferdi gave me an orange jacket and then asked me to leave the vehicle in Gebze. I did as instructed. I do not accept Ferdi's statements. Bahadır said the camera system would change, and I changed it. I only dyed my beard; I didn't dye my hair," he said.
"IŞIK SAID HE WOULD MAKE NURHAN SIGN A PROMISSORY NOTE"
Ahmet T., who claimed to be a partner with Işık, stated, "Bahadır is my son. As school friends, we started communicating with Nurhan through a WhatsApp group. Işık said he was involved in buying and selling abroad and discussed this with Nurhan. Relationships started this way. While sitting somewhere with Işık, he mentioned the promissory note issue and said he would make Nurhan sign it. I told him not to involve me in this, and then the matter was closed. One day, Işık asked me if I could procure a chemical substance because I was interested in it. I said I could procure it. I procured it and left the acid at Ceyhun's farm and returned to Istanbul. When I went to the office in the morning, Işık told me, 'I will handle the promissory note signing.' He said, 'You help too.' I said, 'I will only go back and forth with the car; I won't get involved in anything else,' and I was blinded by my own judgment. In the evening, I went home because my mother was unwell; I had no idea they would kill him. I don't know the purpose of the promissory note; there were talks about something like 1 million dollars, but we had no interest in the incident," he said.
"I DIDN'T THINK EMRAH DYING HIS BEARD HAD ANY CONNECTION TO THE INCIDENT"
Bahadır T. stated, "I have no crime in the actions. Nurhan wanted to bring his vehicle to our gallery for sale. This led to back and forth. I helped the police; I am innocent. I sent 300 TL to Emrah because he repaired the shutter; I already owed him 3-4 thousand lira, and I didn't give him that money for dyeing his beard. I didn't think there was any connection between Emrah dyeing his beard and the incident. I thought he was doing it because he is an extra actor and registered with an agency. I believe he is innocent. I have a heart condition. I need to undergo surgery, but prison conditions are not suitable for that," he stated.
"EVEN IF OUR FRIENDSHIP WITH NURHAN AT UNIVERSITY WAS INTERRUPTED, WE NEVER ATE OR DRANK SEPARATELY"
Işık E., who claimed to be Nurhan's childhood friend, stated, "I worked for 27 years both domestically and abroad. My studies were interrupted because this incident happened to me. They portray me as a monster in the public eye. They are trying to create a bad image. The day before the incident, I met with Nurhan and our mutual friend Fehmi G. due to our business partnership. He asked if there were developments regarding the sale of their vehicles and whether we could go to Istanbul together. We went to Istanbul together. Even if our friendship with Nurhan at university was interrupted, we never ate or drank separately. When we arrived at the gallery in Istanbul, only Ferdi was there. Nurhan stayed upstairs for a while and then left the gallery. I did not see any material evidence in the indictment. There are claims from the other defendants," he expressed.
"THESE ARE NOT NORMAL EXPLANATIONS; I WANT AN INVESTIGATION INTO HIS MENTAL CAPACITY"
Işık, who stated that he was not someone who would recklessly collect a promissory note from Nurhan, said, "I don't need this either. Nurhan was meticulous in his trade. To deceive Nurhan and make him sign a promissory note is madness. It is true that Nurhan allocated a house and an office for me. If I were someone who would commit murder, I would have fled. Instead of fleeing, I helped the police every time they called me. There are claims that I implanted a chip in them and used them like robots. If I threatened them, why didn't they go to the police? They are saying things that have no real-life counterpart." "I have such excellent planning skills that these people mindlessly do what I say, leaving no DNA behind. It is said that he was going to have a promissory note signed; the workflow between Nurhan and me is clear," he said. "I REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION INTO NURHAN'S ASSETS AND THOSE WHO BECAME RICH AFTER HIS DEATH" Işık, who claimed that the allegation of a death list was false, said, "If I have such a meticulous murder plan, isn't there a police force in this country to have a promissory note signed? What will this promissory note be based on? How will they collect it? There is an alleged murder; where, when, and how did he die, and where is the material evidence for this? People who would benefit from this murder are needed. If Nurhan disappears, who will benefit from his death? I have a work contract; do I have any benefit from his death? Who will inherit Nurhan's estate and assets? I request an investigation into Nurhan's assets and those who became rich after his death. Are they all telling a dream under the influence of drugs? I reject the accusations against me. I have information that Ahmet took acid and brought it to Ceyhun's farm. I didn't use the argument that if there is no body, there is no murder. There is an allegation of a $145,000 carpet. Nurhan sold these carpets; I had no involvement," he said. "I KNOW NURHAN GAVE A $145,000 CARPET TO IŞIK, BUT THE MONEY WAS NOT PAID" The victim's wife, Başak Ör, filed a complaint against the defendants. The victim's brother, Erhan Ör, stated, "I have never seen any connection between Nurhan and drugs. Nurhan was my brother, my friend. He was someone who never hurt anyone and couldn't stay angry with anyone. He was beneficial to everyone. We were a very distinguished family. Nurhan gave a $145,000 carpet to Işık, but I know the money was not paid. Işık said he would pay in cash and sell it in Arabia. When I asked Nurhan, he said the money wouldn't come, but the carpets would, yet they didn't come. I don't believe these people are human; this plan is beyond the devil's imagination, and I am complaining," he said. The brother, Serhan Ör, also stated, "They didn't even leave my brother's body to us. I neither saw nor heard that my brother used drugs. I am complaining about the defendants. Nurhan said that Işık couldn't sell the carpets, that they were at his mother's house, and that he would bring them back, but he didn't," he expressed. "THESE ARE THE PEOPLE NURHAN FED, GAVE DRINKS TO, AND GATHERED EVERYWHERE SINCE HIS CHILDHOOD" After the hearing, Erhan Ör, Nurhan Ör's brother, made statements to the press, saying, "They are confessing many things. Some are still trying to deny to save themselves, but the situation is crystal clear. Six murderers have taken my brother's life. There is nothing beyond this. We are waiting for justice to be served. Our struggle is a legal struggle; we trust Turkish justice. Most of the defendants are childhood friends and high school classmates. I know many of them. These are the people Nurhan has fed, given drinks to, and gathered everywhere since his childhood. They have always benefited from him and taken something from him. It is impossible to believe what the defendants are saying and the scenarios they have written. They are trying to escape from the crime with ridiculous excuses," he said. After the lawyers' defenses, the court decided to continue the defendants' detention and adjourn the hearing.
