It is claimed that there will be a change in the law regulating cigarette use, under the instruction of President Erdogan, and a garbage or pollution fee tax will be imposed on tobacco companies to clean up cigarette butts.
The law regulating the ban on tobacco products and the law regulating the tobacco and alcohol market will be amended, and it is claimed that a tax will be imposed for cleaning cigarette butts.
WORKING ON A DRAFT TEXT
According to Turkey Newspaper, action has been taken to prevent smoking upon the instruction of President Erdogan. It is learned that the draft text will be worked on in the new legislative term of the Parliament for the amendment of the law regulating smoking.
BAN CAN ALSO BE DISCUSSED
In the preliminary work to be presented to the Ministry of Health, it will be proposed to take a date determined as a result of the discussions between the institutions responsible for protecting public health as a basis and to ban the sale of cigarettes to the generations born after this date. If the proposed legal amendment is made, a more effective method than selling cigarettes to those under the age of 18 will be implemented. Thus, the protection of individuals aged 15 and under, who are highlighted as the age of starting smoking, will be ensured.
NEW TAX CLAIM FOR TOBACCO COMPANIES
A proposal will be submitted to the Ministry of Trade to make changes to the Law on the Regulation of Tobacco, Tobacco Products and Alcohol Market. It is also proposed that tobacco companies pay a garbage or pollution fee tax to clean cigarette butts.
AK PARTY OFFICIALS ARE EXAMINING THE "CIGARETTE BUTT" MODEL
It was stated that the opinions of scientists will also be taken during the studies, and that world examples will also be examined. AK Party officials stated that they are examining the model that bans the sale of cigarettes to the generation born after 2009 in the UK, as well as the model in Spain that imposes a "cigarette butt" tax on the tobacco industry. It was also stated that the Iceland model, where the smoking ban will be extended to the whole country in 2025, could be an example for Turkey in the next stage.
