A piece of iron containing explosives was found by a fisherman off the coast of Arnavutköy in Istanbul. According to allegations, a fisherman who went out to sea with his boat found an iron piece on the water surface. The fisherman tied the piece to his boat and brought it to the shore. As the iron piece was being pulled, explosives tied together were revealed on top of it. GENDARMERIE TEAMS DISPATCHEDGendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene upon the notification of the citizens. The teams evacuated the surrounding citizens and took security measures. As a result of the efforts of the gendarmerie teams, the explosives were removed from the iron piece and taken for examination. "THEY EVEN EVACUATED THE NEARBY RESTAURANT"Metin Çelik, a citizen who spoke about the incident, said, "It was around 15:00. We were sitting on the beach when we saw our friend coming to the shore. There was something tied behind his boat. He was pulling it but struggling. We thought it was iron or a log. We tied it to a four-wheel drive car to bring it ashore. At that moment, the explosives were not visible. When we pulled it, the piece turned upside down and the explosives were revealed. We called the gendarmerie. The teams arrived. They even evacuated the nearby restaurant. The operation took 4-5 hours. It was a big package. It contained explosives," he said.
