The terrorist organization PKK will begin to lay down arms on Friday, July 11. It has been announced where the ceremony for the first phase, during which 30 PKK members will lay down their weapons, will take place. According to a report by tv100, the weapons will be laid down in the village of Twaswran in the Ranya district of Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.
PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan released a video message ahead of the expected disarmament process starting on July 11. In his message, Öcalan stated, "I believe in the power of politics and social peace, not weapons. And I call on you to realize this principle. My call for the upcoming period is to act in accordance with the congress decisions and the views and suggestions I expressed in this letter, and to achieve developments based on success."
Following this call, the location where the PKK will disarm has been clarified. Accordingly, weapons will begin to be laid down in the village of Twaswran in the Ranya district of Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.
ALL EYES TURNED TO FRIDAY
TV100 reporter Canan Altıntaş, who went to the village where the organization will disarm, stated, "It was planned to broadcast live images of the PKK's first disarmament ceremony on television. However, it was announced that the live broadcast decision was canceled for 'security' reasons."
30 PKK MEMBERS WILL COME TO THE VILLAGE
Altıntaş reported that initially 30 PKK members will come to the village, stating that this city was chosen because it is very close to Kandil, and that the weapons will be laid down here and then destroyed.
Noting that there are 14 camps at the foothills of Kandil, Altıntaş said, "The Mahmur Camp was opened by the UN for refugees in 1998. However, this became one of the major camps for the PKK. These camps were where the PKK made its preparations."
IT WILL BE UNDER MIT'S SUPERVISION
Stating that the disarmament and destruction will be under the supervision of MIT, Altıntaş expressed that the villagers are now concerned about security and that especially the villagers close to Kandil are eagerly awaiting this news. After the weapons are laid down and the camps are emptied, the TSK will conduct search and rescue operations, and then those camps will be handed over to the Peshmerga after they are emptied.
