Screenwriter and director Tomris Giritlioğlu passed away at the age of 67 in the hospital where she was receiving treatment in Istanbul.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy published a condolence message for Tomris Giritlioğlu on his social media account. In his farewell message, Minister Ersoy stated, "I learned with deep sadness about the passing of Tomris Giritlioğlu, the author, director, and producer of unforgettable works. I pray for God's mercy on the strong pen of our cinema; I extend my condolences to her family and the entire art community. May her place be paradise, and may we be strong." After graduating from Hacettepe University with a degree in English Language and Literature, Giritlioğlu decided to become a film director during her university years, worked as a translator and assistant at TRT, and began directing with documentaries. Tomris Giritlioğlu, who won many awards with her first feature film "Suyun Öte Yanı," became famous with "Salkım Hanımın Taneleri," which she directed in 1999 and was awarded "Best Film" at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. After her retirement, Giritlioğlu produced series projects for private television channels and became a pioneer of period dramas in Turkey. Giritlioğlu, who served as a project designer and producer in many productions such as "Kuruşun Yarası," "Çemberimde Gül Oya," "Hatırla Sevgili," "Asi," and "Gönülçelen," passed away at the age of 67 in the hospital where she was receiving treatment in Istanbul.
