The experienced coach bid farewell to his close friend, the Romanian coach, expressing his gratitude with the words, ''You have given so much to this game, not just to Romania or Turkey. And I know; wherever you are, you will not take your eyes off football. Rest in peace, my friend.''

"Dear Mircea,
Writing these lines is not easy at all.
But as two football people who have spent almost their entire lives under great responsibilities that few will ever experience, amidst that unique smell of grass, between or beyond the lines on the green field, this story needs to be completed without remaining silent.
In the past half-century, people have changed, eras have changed, football has changed, the world has changed. But your passion for football has never diminished. We have been different sentences of the same story. The same joys, sorrows, storms, disappointments... We won, we lost, we were criticized, we were congratulated, we were understood, sometimes we were not understood at all. I believe the thing that brought us closest together was our loyalty to the game.
Fate perhaps brought you back to Istanbul, which you loved so much, for this reason.
This is a farewell letter with respect at its foundation. You have given football its due until the very end.
You have given so much to this game, not just to Romania or Turkey. And I know; wherever you are, you will not take your eyes off football.
