Former AK Party Member of Parliament Şamil Tayyar evaluated the statement made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, "The big turnip is in the bag," during a live television broadcast.

"THE FIRST NAME THAT COMES TO MIND IS EKREM İMAMOĞLU"

Tayyar, in response to a question about "who and what Erdoğan meant," said, "When we look at it from the perspective of public perception, the first name that comes to mind is Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu."

Tayyar continued his remarks as follows: "Will there be a new investigation regarding İmamoğlu in the future, or will the case pending in the appellate court be resolved quickly? We do not know if it will enter the political agenda as a topic of discussion, but ultimately, his hand is on his ear as well. It has been about a year and a half. When we look at the timelines of the cases pending in the appellate court, we see that this has been greatly exceeded. That case could be concluded today, and the likelihood of approval seems high. İmamoğlu is also in a position to have bought this decision. He has also made a statement saying, 'Come on, approve it as soon as possible.'

"IF THERE IS NOT A VERY STRONG FILE, IT CAN BACKFIRE"

Stating that the allegations regarding Beşiktaş Municipality could also be valid for the Metropolitan Municipality, Tayyar, in response to the question, "Can İmamoğlu be arrested?" said, "The same process could occur. If the measures exceed the limits, and the cases referred to the judiciary are baseless, this could be perceived as a political operation and could backfire. If there is a preparation regarding İmamoğlu, the foundation of that must be very solid. After all, we are talking about the CHP's presidential candidate. If there is not a very strong file, it can backfire," he stated.
