Former HDP Member of Parliament Hüda Kaya, who was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for "having a phone in her bag" while visiting her imprisoned son in prison, was released under supervised release upon her lawyer's application.
Hüda Kaya, a former HDP Member of Parliament, had surrendered to Ankara Elmadağ Women's Open Prison a few days ago after her 1.5-year prison sentence was upheld. It was announced that Kaya, who was punished for having a phone in her bag while visiting her son who was imprisoned in 2022, has been released.

Kaya's lawyer, Zilan Leventoğlu, announced on her social media account that her client was released with the decision of supervised release. Leventoğlu stated, "We used all democratic and legal means without accepting this blatant unlawfulness. We demonstrated with concrete evidence that the February 28th legacy is now null and void. This result is not only a success of a legal struggle but also a collective success of social conscience," she said.

Hüda Kaya, who made her first statement after her release on her social media account, shared the message, "With the power of solidarity… To true freedoms, to free days... Thank you everyone."
