Authorities say suspected Daesh/ISIS member from Iraq, was ‘ready for carrying out attacks’ in Germany.

A suspected Daesh/ISIS member has been arrested over potential terror plots in Germany, authorities said on Thursday.

The police arrested the suspect during a raid in Esslingen am Neckar, southwestern Germany, the Federal Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

The accused, who was identified as Mahmoud A., had received military training in Iraq and was "ready for carrying out attacks" in Germany, the prosecutors said.

According to the authorities, the suspect joined the terror group Daesh/ISIS probably before the summer of 2016, and is believed to have travelled to Germany in 2022.

German intelligence agencies and police have been on high alert this month as the country is hosting the EURO 2024 championship, Europe's biggest football tournament. -
