CONCERN OVER "SYRIAN DOCTORS" IN GERMANY

The return of Syrian doctors to their home country has raised concerns in Germany. Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser warned that the return of Syrian doctors working in Germany to their home country following the fall of the Assad regime would seriously impact Germany's healthcare system.

"THERE WILL BE A SIGNIFICANT SHORTAGE IN THE HEALTH SECTOR"

Faeser stated after a cabinet meeting, "If all Syrians working here leave our country, there will be shortages in all areas of the healthcare sector. It is important for us to offer those Syrians who are here, have a job, are integrated, have not committed crimes, and have children in school the opportunity to stay here and contribute to our economy."

Supporting Faeser's statements, Germany's Health Minister Karl Lauterbach emphasized that more than 6,000 Syrian doctors are working in Germany and that they are "indispensable" for healthcare services. Meanwhile, Germany recently suspended the asylum applications of more than 47,000 Syrians.
