The Karaçoban district of Erzurum became the coldest place in Turkey with a temperature of minus 30.3 degrees. Following the snowfall, life was negatively affected in many provinces where freezing cold prevailed. In Kars, clothes hung outside to dry froze solid within minutes, while in Ağrı, frost formed on the eyebrows and hair of the residents.
The Karaçoban district of Erzurum has been recorded as the coldest place in Turkey, with a temperature of minus 30.3 degrees at night.
According to data on the website of the General Directorate of Meteorology, Karaçoban, where the lowest temperature of the day was measured, was followed by the Bezirhane village of Çaldıran district in Van at minus 28 degrees, and Bulanık district in Muş at minus 26.3 degrees.
EVERYWHERE IS COVERED IN ICE
In Erzurum, the snowfall that has been effective for two days has given way to freezing cold weather. In the city center, where thermometers showed minus 12 degrees at night, parked vehicles' windows froze, and roads and sidewalks were covered in ice. In the city, where icicles formed on roofs, some fountains also froze.
LAUNDRY HAS TURNED ROCK HARD
In Kars, the cold weather negatively affects life. In the city where the air temperature dropped to minus 19.7 degrees, streams and lakes were covered in ice, and plants and trees were frosted. Citizens covered their vehicles with carpets and blankets to protect them from the cold. Laundry hung outside to dry turned rock hard within minutes. Gülsen Demirkaya, expressing that the laundry froze due to the cold, said, "All the clothes we spread have frozen. The cold of Kars has begun."
In the Sarıkamış district, freezing cold continues to have an impact. While the windows of houses, cars, and workplaces froze, long icicles formed on building roofs and natural gas chimneys. The municipality, highway, and Provincial Special Administration teams started snow plowing and salting work. A citizen named Himmet Bozyel stated that the weather became very cold after the snowfall, saying, "It gets very cold at night; we see minus 20s, the harsh cold has begun."
TRANSPORTATION IS DISRUPTED IN ARDAHAN
In Ardahan, the cold weather and snowfall continued to have an effect. In the city, the effective snowfall disrupted transportation in some areas. In the city where the cold weather caused icing, some citizens covered their vehicles to protect them from the cold.
In Tunceli, the night temperature dropped to minus 6 degrees. Due to the cold weather, the windows of vehicles froze, and ponds partially froze. Municipal teams worked on salting the icy roads.
AĞRI SAW TEMPERATURES BELOW ZERO AT 20 DEGREES
In Ağrı, where the air temperature was around minus 20 degrees, snow gave way to freezing cold. In the city, where visibility decreased due to fog, rivers and streams were covered in ice. Citizens heading to work in the morning faced difficulties due to the icing on the roads.
THEIR EYEBROWS AND HAIR FROZE
Citizens heading to the livestock market early in the morning had frost on their eyebrows and hair. Traffic disruptions occurred due to the collision of two trucks at traffic lights near the livestock market. İnan Cebe stated that he goes to the livestock market early every day, saying, "The weather is very cold; we are freezing. I come to the livestock market at 5 in the morning. The cold of Ağrı has begun, and it will continue like this from now on."
İbrahim Uray mentioned that he was at the livestock market in 2 hours, that the weather suddenly got cold, and that they had a hard time starting the car. Resul Yatmaz stated that winter is harsh, saying, "Winter has just started. The weather is very cold. January and February will be this cold. There is both fog and cold. I am going to work; I wore thick clothes."
