HAMAS REACHED A CEASEFIRE AGREEMENT WITH THE U.S.

Hamas has reached a general framework agreement with U.S. representative Steve Witkoff for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. No details were provided regarding the specifics of the agreement.

CEASEFIRE AGREEMENT BETWEEN HAMAS AND ISRAEL

On December 1, 2023, Israel continued its violent attacks on Gaza. The Israeli army continued to forcibly displace Palestinians with expulsion orders issued within Gaza. Despite ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza has persisted for over a year due to the Israeli government's objections to a ceasefire that would permanently end the attacks.

The ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement reached between Hamas and Israel came into effect on January 19.

The Rafah Border Crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt was opened on February 1 for the evacuation of the sick and injured after the Israeli army's 8-month occupation.

In the first phase of the agreement's prisoner exchanges, over 1,700 Palestinian prisoners were released from Israeli prisons, while 33 Israeli prisoners were handed over, including 25 alive and 8 deceased from Gaza. Additionally, 5 Thai prisoners in Gaza were also released.

The first phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza lasted 42 days and ended on March 2. Israel has once again dragged its feet in negotiations for the second phase, which would make the ceasefire permanent.

Following the ceasefire that came into effect on January 19, the Israeli army resumed its violent attacks on the morning of March 18.

Since the resumption of the attacks, approximately 4,000 Palestinians, mostly elderly, women, and children, have lost their lives, and more than 11,000 people have been injured.
