RABIES DETECTED IN STRAY DOG
Samples were taken by teams that arrived in the Tekebaşı neighborhood of Samandağ district after signs of rabies were observed in a stray dog. The sample sent to the Adana Veterinary Control Research Institute Laboratory tested positive for rabies.
4 NEIGHBORHOODS QUARANTINED
As a result, the Samandağ District Animal Health Board decided to quarantine the neighborhoods of Tekebaşı, Meydan, Gözene, and Çöğürlü, prohibiting the entry and exit of animals in the area. Teams from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry also initiated vaccination efforts in the region.
Sezer Gümüş, a resident of the neighborhood, stated that they contacted the authorities for vaccination upon hearing about the rabies case, saying, "It was said that a stray puppy in our neighborhood had rabies. After the authorities' examination, it was understood that the dog had rabies. As an animal lover, I have pets that I care for and adopted. The authorized personnel came and vaccinated the animals and provided the necessary information. Therefore, there is no need to be overly anxious."
Hilal Balıkçı, who noted that four neighboring areas were quarantined after the rabies case, said, "We informed the authorities about the rabies case that occurred in our neighborhood. We heard that four neighborhoods were quarantined. There is a risk of rabies. We have a dog that we keep at home. When we heard about the rabies case, we informed the authorities, and they immediately came and vaccinated our dog," she expressed.
