After the death of 74-year-old Ünzile Mangaz in Gaziosmanpaşa, allegations of severe neglect and violence emerged following reports from neighbors. It was determined that she died in inhumane conditions in the house where she lived with her two daughters, and a sick young woman found in a state of skin and bones after her mother's death was rescued by teams and taken to the hospital. Neighbors reported that Mangaz cried out before her death, "Save us, my bed-bound daughter is being beaten."
The humanitarian drama allegedly taking place in an apartment in Gaziosmanpaşa, Istanbul, came to light on the program "Müge Anlı ile Tatlı Sert." Following a tip-off from neighborhood residents, it was claimed that there were horrific conditions in the home where 74-year-old Ünzile Mangaz lived with her two daughters. Investigations revealed that Mangaz had passed away the previous week.
"SAVE US, MY DAUGHTER IS BEATING MY BEDRIDDEN GIRL" SCREAMS
Neighbors who had lived in the same building for about five years reported that they frequently heard cries for help while Ünzile Mangaz was alive. According to the neighbors, the elderly woman repeatedly shouted, "Save us, she is beating my daughter," claiming that her older daughter was abusing her sick and bedridden sister. It was stated that the sounds coming from the house completely ceased after Mangaz's death.
MOTHER DIED DUE TO NEGLECT
Neighborhood residents reported that after Ünzile Mangaz's death, police teams arrived at the house, and the body was buried in a cemetery for the unclaimed. Neighbors claimed that the elderly woman had been neglected for a long time and was not adequately nourished, asserting that this situation contributed to her death.
YOUNG WOMAN FOUND AS SKIN AND BONES
Some neighbors who entered the house stated that they encountered a very neglected environment with darkened windows and no furniture. It was revealed that the young woman was found lying naked on a couch without even a bed, with bruises, scratches, and wounds resembling signs of abuse on her body. The young woman, described as extremely thin, appeared to be nothing but skin and bones.
"THE APARTMENT WAS FILLED WITH A HEAVY SMELL" CLAIM
Residents of the apartment expressed that they had difficulty staying in their homes due to the strong odors emanating from the apartment in question. It was claimed that sharp smells reminiscent of bleach and thinner filled the entire building.
SISTER AT THE CENTER OF ALLEGATIONS DENIED CLAIMS
After the mother's death and the discovery of her sister in critical condition, attention turned to Suna Hanım. Responding to reporters' questions, Suna Hanım denied the allegations. She reacted harshly to the reporter, refusing to make a statement by saying, "It's none of your business" and "My sister is in better condition than you."
STATE INSTITUTIONS HAVE TAKEN ACTION
Following the allegations and images, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Gaziosmanpaşa District Directorate of Family and Social Services, and the District Police Department teams took action. The teams simultaneously went to the address.
The young woman removed from the house was observed to be exhausted and injured. After the health teams provided initial intervention at the scene, they transferred the young woman to the hospital. Initial checks revealed bruises on her body and severe malnutrition.
