THE TRAGIC END OF A 22-YEAR-OLD GIRLIn the indictment, the public prosecutor stated that on March 30, the car driven by Ramazan Kılınç, who passed the yellow light quickly in order not to be caught by the red light near Girne Boulevard Asri Cemetery, hit 22-year-old İrem Alper and her 24-year-old sister Gizem Alper who were trying to cross the road. It was stated that İrem Alper died in the accident and her sister was injured. BOTH PARTIES ARE "PRINCIPALLY AT FAULT"The prosecutor also mentioned in the report prepared by the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute Traffic Specialization Department regarding the fault status of the parties that when the driver Ramazan Kılınç reached the traffic lights, he did not stop when the yellow light was about to turn red and hit İrem and Gizem Alper, and his speed was high at the time of the accident. It was stated that İrem Alper, who died, and her sister Gizem Alper, who was injured, were also "principally at fault" because they did not cross the pedestrian path. The prosecutor recommended that the defendant be punished for the crime of "causing death and injury by negligence". RELEASE DECISION AFTER 5 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENTThe defendant Ramazan Kılınç, whose defense was heard, stated that he repeated his previous statements and requested his release and acquittal. The court sentenced the defendant Ramazan Kılınç to 5 years, 6 months, and 20 days of imprisonment for the crime of "causing death and injury by negligence" and decided to release him with a travel ban. The court also decided to confiscate the defendant's driver's license for a period of 2 years.
