In the İstiklal neighborhood of the Odunpazarı district in Eskişehir, Zafer B. threw his dog to the ground after getting it out of his vehicle, then squeezed its throat for a while, and later took the dog and got back into the vehicle with a child, driving away.
THOSE MOMENTS CAPTURED ON CAMERA Those moments were reflected in the security camera of a business on the street. Animal lovers, who saw the violence against the dog, shared the footage on social media and reported it to the police.
HAYDİ TEAMS SPRANG INTO ACTION Upon the instruction of the Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an investigation was initiated by the Provincial Police Department's Animal Situation Monitoring (HAYDİ) teams. Zafer B., who was reported to have inflicted violence on the dog, was taken into custody.
HOUSE ARREST SENTENCE GIVEN Teams from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry also conducted a health check on the dog. The suspect Zafer B. stated that he took the dog, which belonged to his business partner, out of the vehicle for a toilet break, and after it barked a lot, he threw it to the ground. After giving his statement at the Provincial Police Department, Zafer B. was referred to the courthouse. The court sentenced Zafer B. to house arrest for the crime of "torturing a pet or domestic animal."
"IT'S MY DOG, I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT" A woman named Hülya Coşkun, who lives in the İstiklal neighborhood and witnessed the incident, said she warned the suspect who threw the dog to the ground. Despite this, Coşkun stated that Zafer B. continued the violence, saying, "While I was sitting at home, I rushed to the balcony at the sound of the dog's screams. The person I saw threw the dog to the ground as soon as he picked it up. I shouted, 'What are you doing? How can you do that to it?' but the man did not react at all. Later, he said, 'It's my dog, I can do whatever I want,' and left. His son also kicked it on the ground, squeezed its throat, and did something. I got very angry. This person said, 'What do you care? I can do whatever I want,' and left. Please, let this be stopped, my heart is breaking, I can't bear it. This dog may be hungry, tired, or stressed in the car. You should take it in your arms, pet it, and calm it down. If you can't take responsibility for this, you shouldn't take care of animals. I have pets too, and my friend takes care of many animals. We take care of them like our own eyes. Please take action."
