A new statement has come from Doğan Demir, the Istanbul Deputy of the Future Party, who drew reactions by saying that the 196,775 lira salary of a member of parliament is insufficient. Demir stated, "Anyone who writes that I rebelled against the insufficiency of the deputy salary and creates a perception is dishonorable and immoral. What I am saying is that we need to think about the millions of our citizens who are living under hunger and poverty, rather than our own salaries."
The Saadet Party, the Future Party, and the DEVA Party made a statement that sparked a debate regarding parliamentary salaries from Doğan Demir, who serves as a member of parliament for Istanbul under the umbrella of the New Path Party they established to form a joint parliamentary group. Demir argued that the parliamentary salary of 196,775 lira is insufficient, stating, "It is considered too much because the minimum wage is low."
AFTER THE REACTIONS, DEMIR MADE A NEW STATEMENT: WHOEVER IS CREATING PERCEPTION IS DISHONORABLE Following the reactions, Doğan Demir made a new statement. In his statement on social media, Demir used harsh expressions. He said: "Whoever has been writing, serving, creating perception, and trying to tarnish my image by saying that I have been rebelling against the parliamentary salary for the past two days in the press and public is dishonorable and untrustworthy."
Doğan Demir, Istanbul MP of the Future Party "I HAVE NO BUSINESS WITH MONEY" I am someone who knows very closely how our citizens are struggling to make ends meet, as the pension and minimum wage in our country are below the hunger threshold. Moreover, it is very absurd to index parliamentary membership to salary; while we are fighting to serve our country and people, money has never been on our agenda and it cannot be. Additionally, everyone who knows me knows that I have no business with salary or money, nor do I need it. The essence is that when my journalist friend asked during a conversation, "Is the parliamentary salary being talked about a lot, and is it enough?" I know that all MPs are subjected to such questions.
"WHAT I SAID IS THAT WE SPEND TWO TO THREE TIMES THE SALARY WE RECEIVE" What I said is that we spend two to three times the salary we receive, that our job is to serve our people and our country, and that we should think about the millions of our citizens living under hunger and poverty rather than our salary. Lastly, I want you to know that I am aware of who has consciously served the news of our conversation in a false and misleading way.
