Istanbul Governor Davut Gül shared the security data for the first 10 months of 2025. According to the data, there has been a significant decrease in crimes committed against individuals and property in Istanbul. Crimes against individuals decreased by 9%, while crimes against property saw a 22% reduction.
The Governor of Istanbul, Davut Gül, shared the updated security data for the first 10 months of 2025 with the public at a meeting held at the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). According to the data, there has been a significant decrease in crimes committed against individuals and property in Istanbul.
9% DECREASE IN CRIMES AGAINST INDIVIDUALS
In the first 10 months of 2025, the total number of incidents in eight main categories of crimes against individuals in Istanbul decreased from 79,169 to 72,246. This represents a decrease of 8.7%.
Additionally, the clearance rate for these types of crimes increased from 98.7% to 99.5%, showing an increase of 0.8%.
According to the provincial data, the change rates in crime types are as follows:
- Intentional homicide: decreased by 11.1%
- Sexual crimes: decreased by 14.7%
- Deprivation of liberty: decreased by 9.2%
- Intentional injury: decreased by 8%
- Violation of residence immunity: decreased by 13.3%
- Threat: decreased by 6.3%
- Insult: decreased by 12.7%
- Disturbing the peace and tranquility of individuals: decreased by 12.9%
22% DECREASE IN CRIMES AGAINST PROPERTY
A significant drop was also observed in nine major crimes committed against property. The total number of incidents, which was 28,747 in the same period of 2024, decreased to 22,503 in the first 10 months of 2025, marking a decrease of 21.7%. In this crime group, the clearance rate increased from 84.5% to 92.6%, showing an increase of 8.1%.
The rates by crime are as follows:
- Burglary from home: decreased by 34.5%
- Theft from workplace and institution: decreased by 17.7%
- Vehicle theft: decreased by 31.2%
- Theft from vehicle: decreased by 49.6%
- Motorcycle theft: decreased by 47.6%
- Purse snatching: decreased by 55.6%
- Fraud: decreased by 6.9%
- Robbery: decreased by 15%
- Pickpocketing: decreased by 38.8%

Speaking at the meeting, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated, "We are gathered here to share the efforts we are making for the peace and security of Istanbul, one of the largest metropolises in the world. Looking back at the last 10 months in our city, which is one of the safest in the world, we see that crimes committed against individuals have decreased by nearly 9% compared to the same period last year, and the clearance rate continues to rise. We witness a decrease in the number of incidents for all crimes against property and a steady increase in the clearance rate," he said. Governor Gül congratulated the personnel in the police, gendarmerie, and coast guard organizations who serve selflessly.
