"WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE RISING DEATH TOLL"
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear made a statement on the social media account of American X regarding the accident that occurred at Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky. Beshear stated that the UPS cargo plane crashed shortly after taking off from the runway, saying, "The news from Louisville tonight is bad, the death toll has reached at least 7, and this number is expected to rise."
Emphasizing that 2 employees are also missing in the accident, Beshear reported that the 11 injured individuals were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. He also noted that there was no "particularly hazardous cargo" on the plane that would pose an environmental problem for those nearby.
FIRE FIGHTING OPERATIONS CONTINUE
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg also reported that all emergency response teams in the city have arrived at the scene and that efforts to extinguish the fire that broke out after the accident are ongoing.
