The mystery of the road in the Ayazmana neighborhood of Isparta, famous for vehicles appearing to move uphill on their own, has been solved. Prof. Dr. Seyfettin Çakmak from the Department of Physics at Süleyman Demirel University’s Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences stated that the phenomenon is not due to a magnetic effect, but rather an optical illusion.
The ramp located in the Ayazmana neighborhood of Isparta, known as the "mysterious road," has been astonishing those who see it for years. The appearance of vehicles seemingly moving uphill without any acceleration has led local residents and visitors to speculate about "magnetic field" claims. Drivers cannot hide their astonishment as they watch their vehicles move on their own on a reverse slope, while many people come to the area to witness this intriguing phenomenon. Prof. Dr. Seyfettin Çakmak, a faculty member of the Department of Physics at Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, has made a statement that will end the years of curiosity.
"A DEFINITE EXPLANATION HAS BEEN MADE AFTER YEARS"
Şükrü Altuğ, who lives in Isparta, stated that he went to see the interesting event at Ayazmana Recreation Area, saying, "Recently, I heard that vehicles were going uphill without pressing the gas on a ramp in the recreation area. I came to investigate this, and indeed, the vehicle climbs the slope without pressing the gas. Moreover, even if we press the brake and stop in the middle of the road, it stays in place without rolling back. This is a very mysterious situation, and no definite explanation has been made for years," he expressed.
ALTUĞ'S UNREALISTIC JOURNEY DREAM
Altuğ stated that due to this event, Ayazmana Recreation Area has become known not only in Isparta but also throughout the country, saying, "In my research, I encountered different opinions; optical illusion, underground water, magnetic field, or rarely seen other natural phenomena are suggested. Some say it is an optical illusion, but in my opinion, there is no illusion here because it clearly appears as a ramp. I wish there were such a situation in many places in our country so that we could roll our vehicle downhill without consuming fuel," he said.
"THE EVENT HERE IS ACTUALLY AN OPTICAL ILLUSION"
Prof. Dr. Seyfettin Çakmak, an academic in the physics department and also a scientist, stated regarding the issue, "Years ago, during pedagogical formation courses, I addressed this topic with my students and we solved the problem. The appearance of the vehicle going uphill when it is in neutral at Ayazmana Recreation Area has been featured in various channels for years and attracted attention. However, as a scientist, I apologize for not announcing to the public at that time that the event here is an optical illusion. Such events are entirely optical illusions. Examples of this can be found in nature as well as in the works of painters. They are often seen in the works of painters, but rarer in nature," he said.
"IT IS A ROAD WITH A SLOPE DOWNWARD, NOT UPWARD"
Çakmak, who said, "The appearance of vehicles going uphill is actually a trick played by the eye," added, "To prove this, a laser length measuring device is used along the road to detect millimetric height differences. Thus, it can be definitively shown that the road actually slopes downwards at a very slight angle of about 1 degree. The position of the surrounding walls, trees, and curbstones creates the illusion that the road is sloping upwards. But in fact, it is a road that goes downhill. When you search for names like 'Magnetic Hill' or 'Electric Brae' on social media, you can find similar optical illusions in many countries around the world," he stated.
