Hot developments in the Gülistan Doku investigation: Provincial police chief summoned for testimony, 2 suspects referred to courthouse

Burçin Yerlikaya and Yücel Erdem, IT officers at Tunceli State Hospital, who were detained over allegations that Gülistan Doku's hospital records were deleted, have been referred to the courthouse. Within the scope of the investigation regarding Gülistan Doku, Tunceli State Hospital IT staff Burçin Yerlikaya and Yücel Erdem, who were detained, were referred to the courthouse after procedures at the gendarmerie.

On the other hand; within the scope of the investigation into former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, who was arrested in the Doku investigation, former Tunceli Police Chief Yılmaz Delen was summoned for testimony as a 'witness'. Delen, who is currently the Yalova Police Chief, came to Erzurum and gave a 4-hour statement.

BACKGROUND OF THE INCIDENT

The family of Gülistan Doku (21), a female university student studying in Tunceli, who could not be reached since January 5, 2020, came from their hometown Diyarbakır to Tunceli and filed a missing person report at the police station on January 6, 2020; the search efforts initiated yielded no results.

In line with new information obtained, within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of "intentional killing", "sexual assault", "concealing/destroying crime evidence", "destroying/altering data by unlawfully entering an information system", "deprivation of liberty", "failure to report a crime", and "harboring a criminal", 15 suspects were detained.

Among the suspects, former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, his son Mustafa Türkay Sonel, former police officer Gökhan Ertok accused of deleting data on Doku's SIM card, former Tunceli State Hospital Chief Physician Çağdaş Özdemir accused of deleting hospital records, former Tunceli Special Provincial Administration employee Erdoğan Elaldı, Celal Altaş, Nurşen Arıkan, Ferhat Hanedan Güven, Doku's boyfriend Zeinal Abakarov, her mother Cemile Yücer and her stepfather (a former police officer) Engin Yücer, along with Şükrü Eroğlu who was Tuncay Sonel's protection police officer at the time, were arrested. Uğurcan A., along with Savaş G. and Süleyman Ö. responsible for Munzur University's security cameras, were released under judicial control with a travel ban decision.

Within the scope of the investigation, a red notice was issued for the fugitive suspect Umut Altaş, who was determined to be abroad, and Tunceli State Hospital IT staff B.Y. and Y.E. were also detained.
