The leader of the new administration in Syria, Ahmed al-Shara, stated that displaced Syrians, who were forced to leave their homes due to the collapse of the 61-year Baath regime, have begun to return to their lands. Al-Shara emphasized that during the process that resulted in the regime's overthrow, those living in the areas they controlled were not displaced; on the contrary, more people came to live there. He noted that now people from all segments of society continue to live together without issues. "I AM SURE 14 MILLION SYRIANS WILL RETURN TO THEIR COUNTRY IN 2 YEARS"Speaking to Joe HaTTab, a content creator on the YouTube platform, al-Shara indicated that returns to the country would increase, stating, "I am sure that in 2 years, 14 million Syrians will return to their country. Only 1 or 1.5 million will remain." "LEADERSHIP IS KNOWING WHEN TO PROGRESS AND WHEN TO STOP"Al-Shara stated that the overthrown regime used the country's institutions to strengthen its pressure and authority over the people, claiming that the regime demonized the public, organized all institutions to ensnare the people, directed the masses to serve itself, and resorted to regulations such as torture or killing. He expressed that they would base the reconstruction and development process of the country on the principle of justice, stating that leadership is knowing when to progress, when to stop, and where to stand. "WE WILL BUILD INSTITUTIONS THAT WILL DISTRIBUTE JUSTICE"Al-Shara, who stated, "If the state is weak, the citizen of that country cannot be strong," noted that in this process, short, medium, and long-term plans should be made for public institutions, legislative and executive bodies, and other different sectors. He mentioned that solving the existing problems in society would take time, but it could be overcome with stable plans and social education, saying, "We must keep our promise. We will have priorities in the construction of the state. We will build institutions that will distribute justice." Al-Shara pointed out that the Syrian people have overcome their morale issues with the revolution, stating, "Now the Syrian stands tall everywhere. We have changed the course of history." "THE TIME HAS COME FOR STATE REASON TO REPLACE REVOLUTIONARY REASON"Al-Shara expressed that all segments of society live in harmony, stating, "There is social consensus in Syria. Thanks to this, for the first time in Syria, people will be able to live together with love." He noted that with the collapse of the regime, the revolution was completed, and therefore the time has come for revolutionary reason to be replaced by state reason. "NO PARDON FOR THOSE WHO TORTURE AND COMMIT MASSACRES"Describing their goals as "victory without revenge," al-Shara stated that he views the amnesty policy positively and that they approach those who changed sides after the regime's overthrow with goodwill. Al-Shara said, "I am against the term 'turncoats' for those who change sides. I approach with goodwill. I think that for 14 years, a mass was educated against the revolution. Before that, they were being educated against a certain group. They were told, 'They will come and cut you and throw you into the sea.'" On the other hand, al-Shara pointed out that there are some exceptions, stating, "There is no pardon for those who torture in Sednaya Prison and other security branches, those who drop barrel bombs, and those who commit massacres."
