In Hatay, during an operation against migrant smuggling, 5 irregular migrants being transported in two taxis were caught. Two organizers detained in connection with the incident were arrested and sent to prison. While the drivers were fined a total of 21,333 liras, the taxis were impounded.
Teams from the Hatay Provincial Police Department carried out a significant operation as part of their efforts to combat migrant smuggling.
On June 21, following surveillance on the Antakya-İskenderun road, two taxis were stopped on suspicion and searched. Inspections revealed that 5 foreign nationals found in the vehicles did not have valid residence permits in Turkey.
HUMAN TRAFFICKERS ARRESTED
Two organizers identified as being linked to the incident were taken into custody by police. Following their procedures at the police station, the suspects were referred to the courthouse and arrested by the court, then sent to prison.
VEHICLES BANNED FROM TRAFFIC
As part of the operation, a total of 21,333 lira in administrative fines were imposed on the drivers of the taxis used for traffic violations. The vehicles in question were also banned from traffic.
The 5 irregular migrants apprehended were handed over to the Provincial Migration Management Directorate after their procedures were completed.
