Hüseyin Sarpkaya, the Chairman of the Health Sector Board of MÜSİAD, was a guest of Melis Yaşar in the Haberler.com studio. Sharing details of the report prepared for the medical device sector, Sarpkaya emphasized the need to increase domestic production, reduce dependency on imports, and support innovation in health technologies.

The Chairman of the MÜSİAD Health Sector Board, Hüseyin Sarpkaya, made evaluations regarding the current status of the medical device sector and proposed solutions for the future. Sarpkaya stated that the report prepared offers comprehensive solutions to the problems faced by the sector, emphasizing that increasing domestic and national production is critical for the sustainability of the health ecosystem.

"WE ADDRESS THE SUB-DISCIPLINES OF HEALTH WITH OUR 650 MEMBERS"

Hüseyin Sarpkaya noted that as the MÜSİAD Health Sector Board, they have a wide representation network in the health ecosystem, stating, "We address the sub-disciplines of health with our 650 members. This allows us to understand the dynamics of the sector and produce better solutions." He emphasized that medical devices have been actively produced in Turkey for many years, but the dependency on imports is still high.

"TURKEY MUST BE A GLOBAL PLAYER IN HEALTH TECHNOLOGIES"

Sarpkaya pointed out that significant changes are taking place in the global medical device sector, stating, "I differentiate between global firms and multinational firms because global firms are exploitative and oppressive. Many companies around the world are closing their R&D centers and obtaining information from start-up companies." He expressed that Turkey needs to create a strong health vision in this process and should invest more in next-generation technologies to be among global players.

"LOCALIZATION EFFORTS FOR SUBSTITUTE PRODUCTS ARE ESSENTIAL"

Making important evaluations about the future of the health sector, Sarpkaya stated that Turkey is in a good position regarding food supplements and enriched foods. He also pointed out, "We need to carry out localization efforts for substitute products. The social security umbrella is struggling to take care of the elderly population," emphasizing that supporting domestic production is necessary for the sustainability of the health system.
