A 7-year-old child in Kayseri was circumcised in a health cabin, despite being prohibited. A criminal complaint was filed against the health officer who cut off the child's gangrenous genital organ. GANGRENOUS GENITAL ORGAN WAS CUT OFFY.B., who lives in Kayseri, took his 7-year-old son F.E.B., who had just started second grade, to a health cabin on July 18th to have him circumcised. The health officer working there, Hüdai Çeliker, demanded 3,500 liras for the circumcision. After the money was agreed upon, the circumcision was performed in the health cabin, despite the ban by the Ministry of Health. According to the allegations, the health officer sent the child, who needed to be monitored for 24 hours after the circumcision, home. However, the child's genital organ became gangrenous due to the illegal circumcision. "HE RIPPED THE BANDAGE OFF MY SON WHILE HE WAS SCREAMING"According to the news in Sabah newspaper; Y.B., the father of the child, said, "We were supposed to remove the wrapped bandage after 24 hours. We didn't know, so we didn't remove it. That's why swelling and bruising occurred. Three days later, we reached the health officer and he said, 'immerse the child in water and remove the bandage. Nothing will happen. Swelling is normal.' However, we couldn't remove a part of the bandage because it was too tight. My sister, who came to our house while I was at work, took him to the health cabin when she noticed the bruising. The health officer H.Ç. ripped the bandage off my son while he was screaming. I took him to the health cabin again in the morning," explaining the horrifying incident that happened to them. "OTHERWISE, I WILL CUT IT OFF COMPLETELY"Y.B., continued his words by stating that the health officer told him to "leave and go to work" and frightened his son by saying "you won't say anything to your father, otherwise I will cut it off completely." Y.B., who said "I will report you" to the health officer, said, "Upon this, he sent us to a doctor he arranged with his own car. When we were about to enter the hospital, he called and said, 'if the police ask who performed the circumcision, say it was done by someone passing by.' In the hospital, my son's gangrenous genital organ was surgically removed. He underwent 3 operations. He has been in intensive care for days. His life is still in danger. The Ministry of Health has banned circumcision outside of hospitals. I didn't know. H.Ç. ruined my son's future. I will file a complaint," he said. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST OFFENSE OF THE HEALTH OFFICERIt was learned that a complaint was filed against the health officer H.Ç. twice before for the circumcisions he performed, and an administrative investigation was initiated. The Ministry of Health banned circumcision in health cabins with a circular published in 2015.
