Images of injured Russian soldiers being tortured by their own commanders in Russia's Tuva region have spread on social media. The footage shows military police beating the wounded soldiers with batons and using stun guns. Following the circulation of the images, Russian authorities announced that they have launched an investigation.
Terrifying images leaked from Russia's Tuva region have revealed how injured Russian soldiers are being tortured by their own commanders. In the footage, a military police officer nicknamed "Madman" beats injured soldiers with a baton to force them to return to the Ukrainian front and uses a stun gun.
In videos shared by social activist Vitaly Borodin, violence is inflicted on injured soldiers, some of whom are using crutches, and they are threatened with rape. It is reported that one of the victims has a broken spine and is in serious condition.
After the images spread on social media, Russian officials announced that they had launched an investigation. The Tuva regional government stated that they are examining the events that took place on January 16, 2025, at military unit number 55115. While the main suspect has been arrested, it has been indicated that the unit may be disbanded.
According to Abbas Gallyamov, a former speechwriter for Putin, the suspect was arrested not for torture, but for failing to prevent the leak of the footage. Gallyamov stated, "The system does not want scandals because this situation prevents new soldiers from going to the front."
According to Ukrainian sources, 812,670 Russian soldiers have been killed or injured in the three-year war. Additionally, it has been revealed that half of the Ukrainian prisoners held in camps in the occupied Kherson have been tortured. According to a 2023 report by Global Rights Compliance, torture methods such as choking, waterboarding, electric shocks, beatings, and threats of rape have been applied in more than 35 detention centers.
Ukrainian President Zelensky has accused Russia of committing war crimes since November 2022. Numerous mass graves have been found in Ukraine since the war began in February 2022.
