Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) President Ekrem İmamoğlu reacted to the negative comments regarding the video of his wife, Dilek İmamoğlu, singing on the street in Italy, stating, "This shows the level of mud that politics has reached. Our goal should be to create a city where women can sing and feel safe."

Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), who was a guest on the "Yeni Bir Sabah" program hosted by İsmail Küçükkaya on Halk TV, reacted to the targeting of his wife, Dilek İmamoğlu.
Here is İmamoğlu's statement on the matter;
"I have been in politics for nearly 15 years, and I have been serving as a mayor for nearly 11 years. It is a reality that I have been one of the top figures on Turkey's agenda for the last 6 years. They cannot find a single word of mine that disregards a person's family, home, or private life, or that makes them a part of an issue."
"HOW GREAT A SHAME"
In our beautiful country, it is so painful that some people who are so mired in mud and have hit rock bottom can still formulate words and sentences that represent the government, or have come to some political positions with that representation. They are mired in mud. It is impossible not to see how great a shame and how great an ugliness it is to place the family of a person they consider a rival into such an agenda.
"MY WIFE IS A WELL-RAISED TURKISH WOMAN"
My wife, after all, just a while ago, weeks ago, during a trip abroad, a video taken by her niece in Italy and the subsequent spread of a video in her private groups, is an attempt to gain political advantage from here... My wife is a well-raised Turkish woman. She is an educator who has completed her academic career. A mother who has raised three patriotic children...
"DID WE MANAGE TO MAKE OUR CITIES LIKE THIS?"
What more can I read from here? I can read this. Did we manage to make our cities like this? I mean, did we create a city where women can have fun happily and freely? Were we able to allow them to walk down the street with a smiling face, perhaps even singing loudly sometimes? From the east to the west of Turkey, from the south to the north. Did we manage to do this? After doing this, Turkey would be more peaceful.
I approach the issue this way. Making political discrimination from here, producing political polarization, and establishing a process of how to attack Ekrem İmamoğlu through the wife of a politician is as shameful as it gets. I have been in politics for nearly 15 years, and I have been serving as a mayor for nearly 11 years. It is a reality that I have been one of the top figures on Turkey's agenda for the last 6 years. They cannot find a single word of mine that disregards a person's family, home, or private life, or that makes them a part of an issue."
