A striking statement has come from Turkey regarding the developments between the Assad regime forces and the opposition in Syria. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli stated that the developments are being closely monitored. Keçeli also drew attention to the attacks by terrorist groups in Tel Rıfat and Manbij, which are taking advantage of the unstable environment to target civilians and Turkey, saying, "The failure to fulfill the agreements reached increases our concerns."

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli made a statement regarding the developments in Idlib and the surrounding area on his X social media account. Keçeli stated, "We are also closely monitoring the increase in attacks by terrorist groups in Tel Rıfat and Münbiç that are targeting civilians and Turkey, taking advantage of the current environment of instability. The failure to fulfill the agreements previously reached with stakeholders to eliminate the terrorist presence in these regions raises our concerns."

"OUR PRIORITY ISSUE"

The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson continued his statement as follows:

Keçeli, who stated, "Maintaining peace in Idlib and the surrounding area, which is at the zero point of our border, is a priority issue for our country," emphasized that some agreements regarding the Idlib de-escalation zone have been established since 2017 and that Turkey has been diligently fulfilling the requirements of the agreements it is a party to. Keçeli said, "We have made the necessary warnings on various international platforms regarding the recent attacks on Idlib, which have reached a level that could harm the spirit and functioning of the Astana agreements and have caused serious civilian casualties, and we have recorded that these attacks must be stopped."

Stating that the recent clashes have led to an unwanted increase in tension in the region, Keçeli underscored that preventing new and greater instabilities and ensuring that civilians are not harmed is of great importance for Turkey.

"OUR PRIORITY IS THE UNITY AND TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF SYRIA, WE ARE CLOSELY MONITORING"

Keçeli noted the following:

"We are also closely monitoring the increase in attacks by terrorist groups in Tel Rıfat and Münbiç that are targeting civilians and Turkey, taking advantage of the current environment of instability. The failure to fulfill the agreements previously reached with stakeholders to eliminate the terrorist presence in these regions raises our concerns."

Keçeli emphasized that they are closely following developments within the framework of the importance they attribute to the unity and territorial integrity of Syria and the priority they give to the fight against terrorism.
