FLOOD DISASTER IN GÖKÇEADA
A flood disaster occurred in the Gökçeada district due to heavy rainfall on October 22. Some houses, agricultural lands, and businesses in the village of Kaleköy were submerged. In the village of Uğurlu, the road was blocked due to a landslide caused by the heavy rain.
THE DAM IS FILLED WITH MUD, WATER IS NOT FLOWING IN THE DISTRICT
Due to the mud filling the Gökçeada Dam after the rainfall, water has not been flowing from the taps in the district for 2 days. In a statement made by the Gökçeada District Governor's Office, it was stated that the reason for the water cut is that the dam's purification system automatically shuts down to prevent the filters from clogging.
STATEMENT FROM THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
In a statement made by the Gökçeada District Governor's Office regarding the issue, the following was stated: "As a result of the heavy rainfall experienced in recent days, an excessive amount of muddy water has accumulated in the dam reservoir area, and due to the movement of the sediment (mud and debris) at the bottom of the pond, the water coming from the dam to the treatment facility has become highly turbid. This situation has caused the purification system to automatically enter protection mode; to prevent the filters from clogging and to maintain the hygienic quality of the water, the intake of water from the dam to the treatment facility has been temporarily halted.
"THE REASON FOR THE WATER CUT IS THE TREATMENT FACILITY GOING OUT OF SERVICE"
The main reason for the water cut in our district is not a technical failure, but the excessive turbidity of the dam water causing the treatment facility to shut down as per safety protocols. Currently, the teams from the DSİ, our municipal units, and our relevant technical teams are working in coordination on-site; they are making intense efforts to eliminate the blockage, clean the water line, and clarify the dam water. A certain amount of clarification and clarity of the water in the dam lake is required, and once this process is completed, it will be possible to reactivate the treatment facility.
The works are continuing uninterruptedly under the close supervision of our District Governor's Office and the technical coordination of the DSİ. To prevent our citizens from experiencing hardship, the water in the existing reservoirs is being used in the most efficient way through a planned and controlled distribution system. We thank you for your understanding, patience, and support; we would like to emphasize that we will continue to share this process transparently and through our official channels."
