Due to the effect of cold weather, the precipitation, which is still continuing as intermittent rain, is expected to turn into mixed rain after the evening hours, and in the western (Çatalca and Silivri regions), northern (Arnavutköy, Eyüp, Başakşehir, Sancaktepe, Beykoz, Sarıyer, Çekmeköy, and Şile regions) and high areas of our province, it is expected to be in the form of snow. It is predicted that the mixed rain and snow in the high areas will continue, and from the early hours of Tuesday evening until Wednesday (12.02.2024) noon, it will predominantly be in the form of snowfall across the province."
AKOM WARNED ABOUT EVENING HOURS
In a statement from AKOM, it was noted that snowfall began to be effective in Silivri and Çatalca from the morning hours, and it is expected that the snowfall will increase its effect across the city from the evening hours.
In the statement, it was reported that the cold weather originating from Siberia continues to affect a large part of Istanbul, and it was noted that temperatures are expected to decrease by another 1-2 degrees starting from Tuesday, with particularly short-term heavy snowfall expected in the morning and evening hours until Wednesday. The statement emphasized that temperatures across the city will hover around 0-5 degrees, and the strong and occasionally severe winds from the north could lower temperatures to 0 degrees, increasing the risk of frost and icing.
In the statement, it was emphasized that citizens should be cautious due to the expected snowfall and icing, especially in the evening and night hours, and it was recommended that Istanbul residents take precautions against cold weather and snowfall, be careful in traffic, and avoid using private vehicles unless necessary.
The statement mentioned that the water level in the dams in Istanbul was measured at 54.98%, and with the expected rainfall throughout February, this could rise above 65%.
