With the accepted proposal, the first-tier unit price of water in Istanbul rose from 32.28 lira to 37.92 lira. A news of a water price increase also came from Izmir today. İZSU announced that there will be a 30% increase in water prices.
News of water price increases have come in succession from Istanbul and Izmir. While water prices in Istanbul have increased by 17.5%, in Izmir, the increase was 30%.
THE UNIT PRICE IN ISTANBUL APPROACHED 38 LIRA
In the İBB Council's ISKI General Assembly, a 17.5% increase in water prices was approved. With the accepted proposal, the first tier unit price of water in Istanbul rose from 32.28 lira to 37.92 lira.
30% INCREASE IN IZMIR
In the 2025 Financial Budget Draft of the Izmir Water and Sewerage Administration (IZSU), the institution's income and expenses were announced. According to the announced draft, the rate of increase in water tariffs will be 30%. It was stated that the new tariff will be valid from January 1, 2025. Thus, the price of 0-4 cubic meters of water will rise from 24.85 to 32.31 TL, the price of 5-10 cubic meters of water will increase from 48.04 to 62.45 TL, the price of 11-20 cubic meters of water will go up from 61.43 to 79.86 TL, and the price of water over 21 cubic meters will rise from 115.03 to 149.54 TL.
In the extraordinary general assembly meeting of IZSU in June, a 45% increase in water prices had also been made.
