"WE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND IN THE DARK OF NIGHT"
Mutlu Demir, one of the villagers, stated, "After the incident occurred, we went down to the area of the landslide with the villagers to see if we could help and to understand the magnitude of the event. We couldn't fully grasp it in the dark of night, but as day broke, we realized that the situation was indeed serious. We tried to do what we could. We attempted to help by going down from the fields and different points to the places where people were in the houses. After seeing that AFAD and health teams had arrived, we chose to leave the scene due to safety concerns," he said.
SHOT FROM THE AIR
The area was captured from the air by a drone. The footage clearly showed the massive earth mass sliding and dragging the houses, revealing the extensive damage. The flooding of some roads in the village after the landslide also made transportation difficult. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) continues its work in the region for damage assessment.
