Efforts have been initiated to heal the wounds of the greatest 'frost disaster' in history.
16 fruit species were affected by the frost event that occurred in 34 provinces. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, who have been on the ground since the first day to analyze the extent of the disaster, continue their investigations. According to a report in the Sabah newspaper, a final damage assessment will be made within a month. According to the information obtained, a loss of 90% is expected in apricots, and over 50% in grapes and hazelnuts.
PAYMENTS WILL BE MADE UNDER INSURANCE POLICIES
The period from February 1 to April 14 has been included in the frost coverage. Payments will be made to producers who have taken out agricultural insurance under their insurance policies. TARSİM teams will quickly conduct damage assessments and expert reports to carry out damage payments. Farmers with insurance will receive compensation for the amount of damage incurred. According to TARSİM data, the insurance rates are 54% for grapes, 28% for apricots, 22% for hazelnuts, and 25% for apples.
FARMERS HAVE NOT BEEN LEFT TO THEIR FATE
Farmers without agricultural insurance will not be left to their fate during this process. Farmers who are registered in the Farmer Registration System but do not have frost package insurance will have the expenses incurred for their damaged crops in this production period calculated based on the frost damage rates. This amount will be provided to producers as additional support. For example, if a farmer incurred an expense of 1,000 lira, and if the damage is 100%, the entire 1,000 TL expense will be paid by the Ministry of Agriculture. If the damage is 50%, the state will cover 500 TL of the 1,000 TL expense.
