President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's Cabinet is meeting today at Beştepe after a two-week break. The main agenda of the meeting will include the economy, pension salaries, inflation, the fight against terrorism, developments in foreign policy, and forest fires, which are among Turkey's priority issues.

RETIREES' BASE SALARY ON THE AGENDA

During the meeting, the civil servant and pension increase will be clarified in line with the June inflation data to be announced on July 3. The government's priority agenda will be to increase the lowest pension salary. Retirees with a base salary below 14,469 TL are not receiving an increase in July as it stands. Therefore, a legal regulation is planned to ensure that all low-salaried retirees can benefit from the increase.

CONSECUTIVE STATEMENTS MADE

AK Party Group Deputy Chair Leyla Şahin Usta had signaled the regulation with her statement, "We are aware that nearly 4 million of our retirees receive the lowest salary. We are working on this." Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan also indicated that there would be an increase in the lowest pension salary in July. Işıkhan stated that a study was being conducted with the Ministry of Treasury and Finance and the Presidency on this matter, and that the increase in the lowest pension salary would be determined after the inflation rate to be announced on July 3. If the 6-month inflation difference is around 16-17%, the lowest pension salary could rise to approximately 17,000 TL.

3 POSSIBILITIES FOR THE LOWEST PENSION SALARY ARE BEING CONSIDERED

According to the latest announced inflation data, the cumulative increase over 5 months is at the level of 15.09%. If the June inflation is around 1.5%, it is expected that the increase rate will reach 16.81% and the lowest salary will be 16,901 TL.

Additionally, scenarios for increases that could be made independently of inflation are also being discussed. According to these scenarios;

  • If a 20% increase is made, the salary will be 17,363 TL,

  • In the case of a 25% increase, the salary will rise to 18,086 TL,

  • If a 30% increase is applied, the lowest salary will reach 18,810 TL.

With the announcement of the June inflation figures, the increase rate and the final salary amount will also be finalized.
