In the fire disaster in Bolu Kartalkaya, which claimed the lives of 79 people, 27-year-old Eslem Uyanık, who worked as a chef at the Grand Kartal Hotel, lost his life. The death of the young chef, whose name was included in the Michelin Guide, has left his loved ones in mourning.
In the fire tragedy that occurred around 03:30 at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort, 76 people lost their lives, and 51 were injured. A one-day national mourning was declared due to the tragedy, while the Labor Health and Safety Council (İSİG) announced another sad news.

In a statement made on İSİG's social media account, it was said, "Eslem Uyanık... 21 years old Chef. He lost his life in the fire that broke out around 03:30 at the Grand Kartal Hotel where he worked in Bolu Kartalkaya. He was from Kayseri..."
HIS NAME HAD ENTERED THE MICHELIN GUIDE
Born in Kayseri, Eslem Uyanık had built a significant career at a young age with his achievements in the culinary field. After studying Russian Language and Literature, Uyanık received culinary training at the Culinary Arts Academy and made a name for himself by working in many prestigious restaurants, especially in Istanbul and Bodrum. His greatest achievement was gaining international recognition with the dry age fish concept. The restaurant Amavi Alaçatı, where he served as Chef de Partie (Cold Station Chef), was among the restaurants that entered the Michelin guide this year.
HIS FUNERAL WILL BE HELD IN HIS HOMETOWN
Uyanık's death has plunged his loved ones and colleagues into mourning, and it has been learned that his funeral will be held today after the noon prayer in Kayseri.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In the fire that broke out around 03:00 in the 12-story Grand Kartal Hotel, 76 out of 238 guests in the hotel lost their lives, and 51 were injured. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 9 people had been detained as a result of the investigation into the fire.
