In the Newborn Gang case, chilling words:

26.11.2024 12:40

The trial of the 'Newborn Gang', which caused the deaths of newborn patients by transferring them to the neonatal units of private hospitals they had previously agreed upon in Istanbul, is ongoing. Ecem Koç, a nurse who is a free defendant and responded to the allegations regarding the death of baby Halime, stated, "It was a bad baby. The doctors had no hope, yet we did everything we could. It was not a baby that died suddenly. It was already in a bad condition. Since there was no doctor, we intervened as nurses."

The trial regarding the Newborn Gang, which caused the deaths of babies in intensive care for money, continues today. In the first six hearings last week, 22 detained defendants, including Fırat Sarı, who is said to be the gang leader, were heard. Today, the defenses of the defendants who are not in custody are being taken.

"I LEARNED THE BUSINESS HERE WITH YOU"

The first to defend was the defendant, newborn intensive care nurse Ecem Koç. Stating that she has known Fırat Sarı for a year, Koç said, "I do not know what the thing that is referred to as business is. I learned it here with you. I am only obliged to do nursing."

"IT WAS A BAD BABY, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO DOCTOR..."

Defendant Ecem Koç, who is held responsible for the death of baby Halime, said, "It was a baby that had been without oxygen in the womb. We cared for it for about 55 days with all our efforts. I do not think we had any shortcomings. It was a bad baby. The doctors had no hope, yet we did everything we could. It was not a baby that died suddenly. It was already in a bad condition. It was worse in the last few days. Since there was no doctor, we intervened as nurses. Someone needed to inform the doctor. That was me," she stated.
