As a result of the Higher Education Institutions Exam, only 2 students chose the Science Education department at Aksaray University. The students sit in the front rows of the university's 60-person classroom and receive special lesson-like education from the instructors.

According to the information on the official website of Aksaray University; the Faculty of Education's Department of Science Education has a total of 17 faculty members providing education, including 7 professors, 7 associate professors, 1 doctor, and 2 research assistants. However, this year, only 2 students preferred this department, which has a general quota of 40, as announced in the preference guide by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center.

EDUCATION OF PRIVATE LESSON QUALITY

According to the news in Hürriyet; these two students, one Turkish and the other from Turkmenistan, are receiving education in large classes with the department's 17-member academic staff. Prof. Dr. Süleyman Yılmaz, a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at Aksaray University, stated that they have experienced a dramatic decrease in the number of students preferring the department this year and expressed that the faculties of education have reached a deadlock.

There are 17 teachers for 2 students in the empty education faculty

NOT PREFERRED DUE TO ASSIGNMENT PROBLEMS

Yılmaz stated that due to the difficulties experienced in teacher assignments, students no longer prefer departments that train teachers, saying, "This situation is not only specific to the field of science education. Students in other teaching branches have similar thoughts. Students believe that there will be no return for receiving education in this faculty. This situation was also experienced in basic sciences in the past. They tried to solve the problem with pedagogical formation there, but this also hit the faculties of education. It's like the butterfly effect. As long as students do not prefer the science education department, the scores and thus the quality of the department decrease. In this sense, faculties of education have reached a deadlock," he said.
