The violent eruption of the Lewotobi Laki-laki Volcano on Flores Island in Indonesia has led to a major disaster in the region. The volcano, which suddenly became active at midnight, spewed brown ash and lava reaching a height of 2 kilometers. According to local authorities, at least 10 people have lost their lives in the disaster. One of the hardest-hit places by the volcanic eruption was the convent belonging to the Saint Gabriel Foundation. According to the Foundation's President, Agusta Palma, one nun has died, and another nun is still reported missing. The nuns in the convent had to escape in the dark under heavy ash fall. While power outages occurred in the region, heavy rain and lightning also caused panic among the people. The Volcanology and Geological Hazard Center declared the highest level of alert for the volcano. The erupting hot ashes reached surrounding villages, turning many homes to ashes. In the disaster, where the sky turned red, rescue teams continue their search efforts for those trapped under the rubble.
