In a period of escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, the Tehran administration intensified its operations against espionage activities within the country. Twenty individuals, alleged to have leaked the coordinates of military sites in the city of Urmia, were detained on charges of espionage.
Many people have been detained in the city of Urmia, Iran, accused of transmitting sensitive information related to military and security centers to Israel.
The Chief Prosecutor of West Azerbaijan, Hussein Majidi, stated that "various networks engaged in sending information related to military and security centers to Israel have been identified" as part of the ongoing investigation, and noted that 20 suspects have been arrested by judicial order.
This development occurred during a period when Iran's national security officials are implementing a stricter oversight policy against foreign intelligence activities.
30 PEOPLE HAD BEEN ARRESTED
The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence had announced in recent days that many individuals allegedly connected to both Israel and the United States had been arrested. It was stated that among those arrested were foreign nationals and domestic operational personnel. Officials expressed that these individuals were detained on the grounds of "espionage on behalf of enemy states."
According to recent statements from Iranian security institutions, more than 30 spies, domestic personnel, and operational agents had been arrested on the grounds that they were working on behalf of both U.S. and Israeli intelligence.
