“PEOPLE WERE SCREAMING FOR HELP”

Serenay Yurdakul, one of the residents of the site, said, "I live on the 11th floor. I was outside, I didn't hear anything about the alarm. There were people screaming for help from outside. Not because of the fire, but many were affected by the smoke. They have sealed it now; I don't know when we will be able to enter. People were screaming for help. We all tried to do our best; we called everyone one by one. Unfortunately, there were people we couldn't reach; they broke down the door to get in," she said.

CLAIM THAT “THE ALARM SYSTEM DID NOT WORK”

Another resident of the site stated that the alarm system did not work. It was reported that the residents of the adjacent block had installed and checked the alarm system on their own a day before, but this procedure had not been carried out in the block where the fire occurred. The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
