KAN's Arab Affairs and Middle East Correspondent Roi Kais said in the "Evening News" program that it was "surprising" that Yahya Sinwar was appointed as the head of Hamas' political bureau one week after the assassination of former Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, the capital of Iran. "ONE OF THE ARCHITECTS OF THE OCTOBER 7 ATTACK"Kais reminded that Sinwar was previously the head of Hamas' Political Bureau in Gaza and used the expression "Sinwar is one of the architects of the October 7 attacks." Kais emphasized that Sinwar's election sends messages to Israel, stating, "It contains a message that despite being pursued by Israel, (Sinwar) is alive, the Hamas leadership in Gaza is still present and strong, and it plans to remain in power." Ehud Yaari, the Middle East Affairs Analyst of Channel 12 in Israel, also stated that Sinwar's appointment confirms his position within Hamas. Yaari claimed that Sinwar's appointment as the head of the Political Bureau has no practical meaning at this stage, citing communication difficulties with other members of Hamas. "SINWAR'S ELECTION SHOWS ISRAEL'S FAILURE"Meanwhile, a statement from Hezbollah stated that Sinwar's election is a "strong message to Israel and its allies, who support it, that Hamas is united, firm, and resolute in its decisions and principles." The statement also noted that Sinwar's election demonstrates the failure of Israel's "targets to assassinate its leaders and officials." "ISRAEL'S ASSASSINATION POLICY FAILED TO BREAK THE RESISTANCE"Hamas Political Bureau Member Usama al-Hamdan also emphasized in his statement that Sinwar was elected unanimously, confirming that this election confirms Hamas' awareness of the dangers it faces and its unity. Hamdan used the expression, "This step confirms that Israel's assassination policy cannot break the resistance." Sinwar took over as the head of Hamas' Political Bureau in Gaza in 2017, replacing Ismail Haniyeh, who was elected as the head of Hamas' Political Bureau. Israel considers Sinwar, the new leader of Hamas, as the "number one responsible" for the Aqsa Storm operation on October 7. Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on July 31.
