ISRAEL WITHDREW FROM THE NETZARIM CORRIDOR
Israel fulfilled one of its obligations under the ceasefire agreement reached with Hamas today. In a statement made by Hamas, it was reported that Israeli soldiers withdrew from the Netzarim Corridor in the center of the Gaza Strip.
HAMAS FORCES DEPLOYED
A Hamas official stated, "Israeli forces removed their positions and military points, completely withdrawing their tanks from the Netzarim Corridor on Salah-a-din Road, allowing vehicles to pass freely in both directions." With the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the corridor that separates the north and south of the Gaza Strip, the police force managed by Hamas was deployed to the area to control the passage of Palestinians.
An Israeli security source, who requested to remain anonymous, also confirmed that the Israeli army has withdrawn from its positions in the center of Gaza. Under the first phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that came into effect on January 19 between Israel and Hamas, Israel was to withdraw from part of the Netzarim Corridor on January 25 and allow Palestinians to return to the north of the Gaza Strip via the coastal road. The withdrawal, which was postponed after the prisoner crisis with Hamas, took place on January 27.
