It had been 8 months since there was any news! The bones of the missing Nihal Babayiğit have been found.

Nihal Babayiğit, a hearing-impaired person living in Serik, met Mehmet Basık, another hearing-impaired person living in Batman, through social media in 2022 and later disappeared. During that time, Nihal Babayiğit's father Vedat Babayiğit and his estranged wife Derya Yılmaz, who had been living separately for some time, learned that their daughter had started living with Mehmet Basık in Batman through a religious marriage ceremony about 2 months after her disappearance. Disagreements arose between Nihal Babayiğit and Mehmet Basık in 2023. Babayiğit left her baby in Batman 15 days after giving birth and returned to her family in Serik.

PHOTOS WITH SLIT THROAT WERE SENT

Mehmet Basık came to Serik and met Nihal Babayiğit on October 9th last year. After this date, there was no news from Babayiğit. People who were known by Mehmet Basık and contacted his uncle Ali Yılmaz on May 1st this year sent various photos and videos. It was determined that Basık shared a photo of Babayiğit with blood stains on her neck and lying motionless on the ground with the person he had a video call with on his mobile phone. The same video also included moments when Mehmet Basık showed Babayiğit's ID and mobile phone. The family reported to the police expressing their concerns about Nihal Babayiğit's life based on this video and photos. As a result of the investigation, the security teams of Serik Police Department detained Mehmet Basık in Batman on May 2nd. Basık was arrested after the procedures.

BONE FRAGMENTS FOUND AFTER 9 MONTHS

Mehmet Basık, who lived with Nihal Babayiğit in a religious marriage, was brought to Serik under the supervision of gendarmerie from Batman Prison upon the instruction of the public prosecutor. On June 13th, a search was conducted between Serik-Belek highway and Eminceler location among the trees on the roadside, upon Basık's indication. Bones believed to belong to Nihal Babayiğit were found during the search. The police collected the bones, which were removed by the crime scene investigation and Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Cemetery Directorate teams, in a body bag. Later, the bones placed in a coffin were sent to Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy. Samples taken from the bones were also sent to Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute for DNA analysis. The murder suspect Mehmet Basık was placed in a prison in Manavgat district of Antalya.

'HER WHEREABOUTS ARE NOW KNOWN'

As a result of the examinations carried out at Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute, it was determined that the bones belonged to Nihal Babayiğit. After the announcement of the result, Vedat Babayiğit received his daughter's bones and buried them in Serik district. Vedat Babayiğit, who spoke to DHA reporter, said, "Thank God, we now know where our daughter is. We will come and pray for her. My child has been disgraced for over a year. She was missing for 7-8 months. She was searched for and found. Her whereabouts are now known. Everyone did their best. From now on, we will come and pray for her. My daughter's body came from Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute. We received it in the morning and buried it. According to the autopsy result, the funeral belongs to my daughter Nihal. The state will decide about the person who killed her. Our judges will decide, but we will also follow up. Hopefully, that person will spend their whole life in prison."
